p-didakt reached out to me for an exciting project: creating a trailer for a module focused on children's online safety. It's all part of the "Digital Enquirer Kit" (DEK) project by the GIZ Human Rights Program. These modules are free on the atingi platform, aiming to empower learners to enhance their lives and make a positive impact in their communities.
Challenge:
The DEK Youth course targets children and young individuals aged 10 and above. It offers an engaging, playful approach to understanding digital information handling, identifying misinformation, and protecting not only oneself but also friends, family, and others. The course is structured around an underwater theme, emphasizing the acquisition of essential tools for online safety through its lessons.
Approach:
The Digital Enquire Kit (DEK) series follows a style guide that can be customized slightly for the video. It features a graphically abstract and cheerful 2D style, with a minor departure from the existing trailers to match the specific theme.

During our kick-off meeting, we delved into the voiceover text, which was initially provided by GIZ and refined through a collaborative effort with p-didakt. We also discussed the project timeline. Subsequently, there was a productive brainstorming session with p-didakt, focusing on potential visual elements and storyline.

Considering that the DEK course was concurrently developed and centered around an underwater theme, I crafted a narrative and storyboard that harmonized with the voiceover. This included detailed descriptions of illustrations and animations to complement the script.

Once the storyboard was solidified, with a clear flow and visual elements, I proceeded to create individual illustrations and keyframes, ensuring a harmonious blend of style and color.
Thanks to the meticulous planning during the storyboard phase, our progress was swift. I initially generated the animation with a synthesized voiceover, making a few adjustments as needed. Later, I refined the video using the final voiceover and incorporated impactful sound effects.
Upon receiving approval for the video, I produced subtitles in five additional languages, namely Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swahili.
"We had the pleasure to work with Natalie for the first time and it was a fantastic experience. She understood the assignment completely, brought in her own creative ideas from the start and was always open-minded about collaboration on ideas. As well as being creative, Natalie is also extremely reliable and a kind-hearted person who is always a pleasure to work with. If you are looking for a great professional Motion Designer who is creative and effective in her work, we can only recommend hiring Natalie. Thank you for making our project complete."
